John Goodyear is a Lecturer (Teaching) in Modern Languages at the Modern Languages Institute for German and European Studies since September 2019.

- PhD in German Cultural Studies, Queen Mary, University of London (2006-2010)
Goodyear's research focuses on modern German cultural history at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth century (Jahrhundertwende). Key areas include representations of music in German modernist literature, the intellectual legacy of German-Jewish philosopher Theodor Lessing (1872-1933), urban social history of twentieth-century German city noise, and the phenomena of Musikstädte (Vienna, Munich, Berlin). He is currently researching Anglo-German theatre life in occupied Germany after World War II, particularly regarding the renovation of the Globe theatre in Oldenburg, Germany.
