Nicolas Levrat is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Geneva since 2001. He has served as Director of the European Institute (IEUG) from 2007 to 2013 and as Director of the Global Studies Institute (GSI) from 2013 to 2015.
- Education: PhD in Public International Law
Research Interests: European institutional law, European legal order, federalism and democracy in Europe, governance in complex institutional systems, Swiss-European relations, rights of minority groups, and cross-border cooperation. His work focuses on the legal and political challenges of European integration, democratic governance, and territorial power structures in a globalized context.
Recent Publications: His research explores themes such as the democratic legitimacy of European institutions, multiculturalism in Europe, and the role of local authorities in transnational governance. He has contributed to edited volumes and journals on European law and global governance.
Affiliations: He is an associate member of the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) Centre for International Law and Centre for Public Law, co-founder of the Network for the Study of Cross-Border and Inter-Territorial Standards (RENTI), and holds leadership roles in doctoral schools and editorial boards of journals like the Belgian Journal of International Law.
