Nicolas Brunet is an Associate Professor and Latornell Professor in Environmental Stewardship at the University of Guelph's School of Environmental Design and Rural Development. His research focuses on community-based approaches to environmental decision-making, particularly in Indigenous and northern communities. He holds a PhD in Renewable Resources from McGill University and an MSc in Rural Planning and Development from the University of Guelph.
His work emphasizes co-developed research with Indigenous agencies, addressing governance of wildlife, resource extraction impacts, and community-based monitoring (CBM). Key projects include fisheries governance in First Nations, Inuit youth engagement in Nunavut, and policy frameworks for effective communication in Arctic research.
