Nicola Tierney

Nicola Tierney is a Lecturer in Primary Mathematics, Digital Literacies, and Critical Literature Review at St Mary’s University. She joined in 2020 after 13 years of teaching in Asia, Europe, and the UK, specializing in mathematics education across primary ages with a focus on Year 6. Her roles include teaching on the Primary Education Work-Based Routes (FdA, BA, PGCE) and the BA Hons Primary Education with QTS.

• MEd in International Schooling, Education and Development (University of New England)

Research interests center on altering mathematics education perceptions, assessment practices, and the impact of Epistemic Insight on pre-service teachers. She is pursuing a PhD at St Mary’s on mathematics education and pre-service teachers. She also collaborates with the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) through the London South West Maths Hub, training early career teachers in early number concepts.
