Nico Israel

Nico Israel is a Professor in the Department of English at Hunter College, City University of New York, and serves as Co-Director of the Mellon Public Humanities and Social Justice Program. His scholarly work bridges twentieth-century literature, literary theory, visual culture, and postcolonial studies.

His research focuses on 20th Century Literature, Literary Theory, and Visual Culture, with specialized work on displacement, globalization, and intersections between art and literature. Recent publications examine modernist art in international institutions, theoretical frameworks from Giorgio Agamben, and linguistic experimentation in James Joyce's works.
