Nick Ridley

Dr Nick Ridley is an Honorary Visiting Research Fellow at the School of Justice Studies, Liverpool John Moores University. He has a distinguished career spanning over two decades in criminal intelligence, having served at the Metropolitan Police (New Scotland Yard) and Europol, with roles in Special Branch and the Anti-Terrorist Branch. He holds two PhDs, one in financial crime and another in terrorist financing.

His research interests include terrorism, insurgency, terrorist financing, financial crime, criminal intelligence, security studies, and the history of diplomacy. These are reflected in his extensive publications and international teaching engagements across Italy, the Netherlands, Turkey, Rwanda, and Abu Dhabi.

Dr Ridley has authored multiple books, including Terrorist Financing: the Failure of Counter Measures, Terrorism in East and West Africa - the Underfocussed Dimension, and Michael Collins and the funding of political violence. His recent works include a historical analysis of a 17th-century European revolt compared to modern insurgencies and a comprehensive history of diplomacy from the 16th to the 21st century, emphasizing its role in conflict resolution.

He has served as a guest lecturer at the NATO Centre of Excellence - Defence against Terrorism in Ankara and has contributed to intelligence training programs internationally. His academic contributions are closely tied to practical law enforcement and policy implications.

Dr Ridley continues to publish and contribute to academic discourse through Liverpool John Moores University, where he has several books published under its name.
