Nicholas Wolfinger

Nicholas H. Wolfinger is Professor of Family and Consumer Studies and Adjunct Professor of Sociology at the University of Utah. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from UCLA and specializes in family dynamics, demography, and social research methods. His research examines marriage, divorce, and family structure across diverse populations.

Primary research interests include the intergenerational transmission of divorce, economic impacts of single motherhood, and religion's role in relationship formation. His work combines quantitative analysis with sociological theory to understand family trends across racial/ethnic groups.

Wolfinger has authored influential books on divorce cycles, academic work-life balance, and cross-cultural marriage patterns. His publications consistently explore how demographic shifts intersect with socioeconomic factors to reshape family structures.

As faculty coordinator for Families Advocating for Campus Equality, he contributes to policy discussions on academic investigations and faculty rights. His research has been supported by grants from the Institute for Family Studies and Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
