Nicholas Hood

Nicholas Hood is a part-time Lecturer in Animation at the Faculty of Business and Creative Industries, University of South Wales, affiliated with the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group. He has been teaching since 2007 while maintaining a professional career in animation and media.

Education:

His research focuses on the intersection of 2D and 3D animation, particularly how 3D computer graphics can adopt the stylistic and economical approaches of traditional limited animation. He explores aesthetic efficiency, visual storytelling, and the artistic potential of stylisation in digital environments.

His scholarly work includes a 2012 oral presentation that investigates the feasibility and success of applying 2D animation principles to 3D CG, forming the core of his research fingerprint in stylised and limited animation.

Nicholas Hood advises students as the 3rd Year tutor and Module Leader for Final Major and Pipeline Projects. He integrates professional practice with academic instruction, mentoring students in pre-production, character animation, asset creation, and post-production. He is actively involved in the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group, contributing to the academic and creative discourse in animation and digital media at the University of South Wales.
