Professor Nicholas Hastie is Director of the MRC Human Genetics Unit and the Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine at the University of Edinburgh. He has made significant contributions to genetics, molecular medicine, and cancer research.
- Education: BSc in Medical Microbiology (University of Liverpool, 1969), PhD in Influenza Replication (University of Cambridge, 1973), Honorary DSc (2005)
Research Interests: His work spans gene expression, genome organization (including telomeres), protein evolution, human developmental genetics, and population genetics. A key focus has been on Wilms' tumor, a childhood kidney cancer, and identifying genetic risk factors for common diseases.
