Nicholas Carpino

Nicholas Carpino is an Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Stony Brook University. He earned his PhD in 1997 from the same institution and focuses on host-pathogen interactions and immune response regulation.

His research centers on the immunoregulatory enzymes Sts-1 and Sts-2, which act as critical checkpoints in antimicrobial immunity. Key projects include elucidating their biochemical and in vivo mechanisms, investigating their roles in innate and adaptive immunity, and developing small-molecule inhibitors to target these enzymes for novel therapeutic strategies.
