About
Nia Griffith is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology & Sport Science at Bangor University. She also holds administrative roles as Director of Undergraduate Studies for all BPS-accredited degrees and Admissions Tutor within the same school. Her education includes a PhD in Psychology from Bangor University (2012), part-funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, and she possesses teaching qualifications such as a Bangor University Teaching Fellowship and Senior Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy.
Her research interests focus on early childhood experiences, particularly the long-term effects of abuse, neglect, and adversity on adult functioning. She explores these themes through undergraduate projects analyzing adverse experiences in students and their links to mental health outcomes like anxiety, depression, and aggression. She also investigates protective factors such as social support and parenting intervention efficacy in high-risk communities.
Her publications highlight evaluations of parenting programs in disadvantaged areas, including the COPING online universal program and comparisons between targeted and universal intervention approaches. These studies utilize methodologies like randomized controlled trials and pilot programs to assess child behavior and program impacts.
