Nelson Shake is a Professor of English at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), serving since September 2019. He holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in English from Texas A&M University, Georgia Southern University, and Harding University, respectively. His teaching focuses on rhetorical modes, argumentative writing, literary analysis, and transnational American literature. He has designed courses on post-Enlightenment texts, global literary genres, and modernist/postmodernist literature.
Shake's research interests include neoliberalism's impact on cultural citizenship, transnational narratives, and literary analysis. His work has been recognized through awards such as the Dissertation Fellow (2018–19) and multiple research grants. He has presented at interdisciplinary conferences, including the American Comparative Literature Association and the British Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies Conference.
Before joining SCAD, he served as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M (2014–2018) and taught at Georgia Southern University. He has also led initiatives like the 'Recitation' pilot program to improve student performance. His publication record includes articles in ARIEL: A Review of International English Literature and conference presentations on topics ranging from Walker Percy's symbolism to Zadie Smith's transnational narratives.
