Nedra Lee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at UMass Boston. Her research explores the intersection of race, class, sex, and gender in African American communities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
She holds a PhD and MA from the University of Texas, Austin, and a BA from Oberlin College. Her expertise spans historical archaeology, African Diaspora studies, Critical Race Theory, and Intersectionality.
Dr. Lee has secured funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Texas Historical Commission. She co-led excavations at the Boston-Higginbotham House on Nantucket Island (2014) and directs the New England African American Archaeology Lab.
