Nathan Roberts

Nathan Roberts is a Lecturer in the Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He holds a PhD from Harvard University’s Film and Visual Studies program (2023), focusing on media ethics and the intersection of technical forms with ethical sensibilities. His work emphasizes how media concepts and technologies can reshape collective ethical frameworks, a central theme in his scholarship and pedagogy.

Research interests include media philosophy, intellectual history, and the ethical dimensions of media forms. He advocates for film and media theory to prioritize ethical reform and pedagogical innovation. Nathan has curated for the Harvard Film Archive, published in the Los Angeles Review of Books, and co-wrote the feature screenplay Chambers Bay with director E.C. Timmer. He is an award-winning instructor, teaching at both UC Santa Barbara and Harvard Extension School.

His creative and curatorial work extends to memoir writing about media and jury service at the Lake Stevens Film Festival. Nathan actively engages with international conferences and interdisciplinary collaborations.
