Nathan Gilbert

Dr. Nathan Gilbert is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient History at Durham University, with affiliations to the Institute of Medieval and Early Modern Studies. He previously held positions at the University of Toronto (PhD 2015, lecturer 2016) and was a DAAD scholar at the University of Bonn. His research focuses on Cicero’s philosophical interactions with Roman contemporaries, challenging traditional views that reduce his works to Hellenistic translations. Key interests include Epicureanism, Herculaneum papyri (collaborating on Metrodorus fragments), and integrating Buddhist philosophy with Greco-Roman traditions.
