David Douglas

Dr David Douglas is a Research Fellow at Emmanuel College, elected in 2024. He specializes in the Epicurean school of Greek philosophy and its intersections with classical Latin literature, particularly Virgil, as well as the study of the Herculaneum papyri. His work bridges textual analysis, historical context, and philosophical traditions.

His research focuses on textual authority and sectarianism in the Epicurean school during the Hellenistic period and the relationship between oral teaching and written texts. At Emmanuel, he is preparing a critical edition of Philodemus of Gadara's epistemological treatise On Sensations, drawing on Herculaneum papyri fragments.
