About
Dr. Nasrollah Hamidi is a full-time Professor of Chemistry at South Carolina State University (SCSU), affiliated with the College of Biological & Physical Sciences. His research focuses on polymer synthesis, waste plastic recycling, and environmental remediation. He holds a Ph.D. from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (1983-1988), Distincción Maxima
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Universidad de Chile (1979-1983)
- B.Sc. in Chemistry, Pars College, Persia (1974-1978)
Research Interests:
His work addresses synthesis and characterization of polymers, depolymerization of waste plastics, and atmospheric water harvesting using post-consumer plastics. He investigates thermal properties of polymers via DSC, TGA, and pyrolysis analysis. Recent efforts include developing methods to recover polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) from waste materials.
Grants and Collaboration:
He has served as Principal Investigator (PI) on multiple Evans-Allen projects and participated in HBCU-UP/NSF initiatives. His collaboration with industry partners focuses on carbon composite materials for high-temperature applications.
Labs/Teams:
His research lab specializes in polymer characterization using advanced techniques like size-exclusion chromatography (SEC), light-scattering, and viscometry. He also leads efforts in atmospheric water generator development using hygroscopic materials.
