About
Professor Fernanda Duarte is an Associate Professor in Computational Organic Chemistry at the University of Oxford and a Tutorial Fellow at Hertford College. She focuses on computational modeling of (bio)chemical processes and biomimetic materials.
- Education: PhD in Chemistry (2012) from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
Research Interests:
Fernanda’s work bridges computational chemistry, (bio)organic chemistry, and supramolecular chemistry. She develops platforms for modeling biomimetic materials with applications in catalysis and sensing, alongside creating mechanistic frameworks for reactions in solution and enzymes.
Scientific Awards:
- Fulbright Scholarship
- L’Oreal-UNESCO Women in Science award
- Bert and Kuggie Vallee Foundation Fellowship
- Newton International Fellowship
- Chancellor’s Fellowship
Teaching & Supervision:
She tutors undergraduate organic chemistry at Hertford College and teaches computational chemistry to DPhil students in Oxford’s Synthesis for Biology and Medicine (SBM) and Theory and Modelling in Chemical Sciences (TMCS) CDTs.
Labs & Teams:
Her research group focuses on computational methods for biomimetic materials and enzyme reactions. For details, visit her group webpage.
