Dr. Nanthini Jayabalan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Mech., Medical & Process Engineering at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Her research focuses on extracellular vesicles, placental biology, and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). She has contributed to understanding the role of adipose tissue-derived exosomes in placental metabolism and fetal growth regulation. Her work also explores miRNA and protein biomarkers in maternal-fetal communication and their implications in GDM and neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s. She is affiliated with QUT’s Centre for Microbiome Research.
Her qualifications include a PhD from the University of Queensland and an M.Sc. in Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience. Key research areas include exosome-mediated cell communication, metabolic regulation in pregnancy, and microbiome interactions in disease. Her publications span interdisciplinary studies in placental biology, diabetes, and neuropharmacology, with a focus on translational applications.
