Nanette Goldman

Nanette Goldman serves as Senior Lecturer and Chair of the Classical Mediterranean and Middle East at Macalester College. She teaches all levels of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew languages alongside research seminars in Classical literature and archaeology, while also maintaining a professional career as a violinist and violist.

Her educational background includes:

• BA from Carleton College (1978)
• PhD Candidate at the University of Minnesota (1998)

Professor Goldman specializes in Latin poetry and documentary literary texts from the Greco-Roman Near East, with current research focused on Jewish poetry of crisis during the Second Temple period. Her work bridges classical literature, ancient languages, and Near Eastern cultural studies through philological and archaeological approaches.

She actively supervises fieldwork at the Omrit archaeological excavation in Israel and co-directs January study abroad programs across Italy, Turkey, and Egypt with colleagues Severy-Hoven and Overman, integrating hands-on archaeological experience with classical studies curriculum.
