Dr Christopher Rollston is Professor of Northwest Semitic Languages and Literatures in the Department of Classical and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at George Washington University. He specializes in Hebrew Bible, ancient Near Eastern religions, Northwest Semitic epigraphy, ancient writing systems, and scribal education practices.
He holds MA and PhD degrees from Johns Hopkins University's Department of Near Eastern Studies, with expertise in over a dozen ancient and modern languages including Hebrew, Aramaic, Ugaritic, Akkadian, and Hellenistic Greek. His research has been supported by National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships at the Albright Institute (Jerusalem) and American Society of Overseas Research (Amman).
Fieldwork includes: Excavations at Umm el-Marra (Syria) and Megiddo (Israel), plus museum research across the Middle East, Europe and North America.
