Myrian Carbajal

Myrian Carbajal is a Full Professor at the Fribourg School of Social Work (HETS-FR) within HES-SO, specializing in migration studies, gender/sexuality issues, and transnational caregiving. Her work focuses on Latin American migrant families' strategies, youth sexual behaviors, and street harassment dynamics. She leads major research projects funded by SEFRI, Swissuniversities, and Canton de Vaud, collaborating with institutions like UNIGE and Universidad Mayor (Chile). Key projects include transnational care for aging parents in Peru, sexual transaction studies among youth, and bystander intervention in street harassment.

Education: BA HES-SO in Social Work. Research spans migration impacts on family structures, intersection of gender and healthcare, and undocumented youth integration. Over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters since 2001, with recent focus on transnational caregiving and digital mediation in youth sexuality. Active in policy advising, notably the Fribourg street harassment study impacting local safety strategies.

Labs/Teams: Core member of HETS-FR's research group on migration and gender, collaborating with international partners across Europe/Latin America. Supervises interdisciplinary projects blending qualitative methods with participatory action research.
