Prof. Dr. Mustafa Altun is a faculty member at Sakarya University’s Faculty of Education, Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education. He holds a PhD in Turkish Language and Literature from Istanbul University and has been actively contributing to the fields of Turkish language education, linguistics, and teaching Turkish as a foreign language. His academic service includes teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, supervising theses, and leading research projects.
His research interests include Turkish language education, applied linguistics, teaching Turkish as a foreign language, Turkish grammar, curriculum development, values education, old Turkish literature, language acquisition, and educational technology. These themes are reflected in his extensive publication record, which spans journal articles, book chapters, and authored volumes.
The recent scholarly publications of Prof. Altun demonstrate a strong focus on pedagogical innovation, assessment in language learning, and the integration of technology in teaching Turkish. His work often bridges theoretical linguistics with practical classroom applications, particularly in the context of foreign language instruction. He has contributed to the development of teaching materials, evaluation scales, and curriculum analysis, especially regarding Turkish as a foreign language.
Prof. Altun has been involved in editorial and peer-review activities for numerous academic journals, including Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies, Turkish Studies, and Uluslararası İnsan Bilimleri Dergisi. He has also participated in national and international academic organizations as a reviewer, editor, and session chair.
He has supervised multiple master’s and doctoral theses on topics such as values education in children’s media, Turkish grammar instruction, and foreign language teaching methodologies. Additionally, he has led and participated in several research projects, including Erasmus+ initiatives and national projects funded by the Ministry of National Education. He has also contributed to academic events as an organizer, moderator, and keynote speaker.
Prof. Altun has held administrative roles such as Head of the Department of Turkish Education and Director of the Turkish Language Teaching Application and Research Center at Sakarya University. He continues to teach courses such as New Approaches in Linguistics, Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language, and Ottoman Turkish, contributing to both undergraduate and graduate education.
