Muhammad Shafique is a Professor of Computer Engineering at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) and a Global Network Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYU Tandon. He is affiliated with the Division of Engineering at NYUAD, where he contributes to teaching and research in computer engineering.
His research interests lie at the intersection of hardware and intelligent systems, with primary areas including Brain-inspired Computing, Embedded AI and Machine Learning, Energy-Efficient Computing, Robust and Secure Hardware, MPSoCs, FPGAs, and Embedded Systems for Cyber-Physical Systems and IoT. His work emphasizes cross-layer analysis, modeling, and optimization of computing and memory systems.
Dr. Shafique has received numerous accolades for his contributions, including the 2015 ACM/SIGDA Outstanding New Faculty Award and the 2020 AI 2000 Chip Technology Most Influential Scholar Award. He has also earned six gold medals during his academic training, best paper awards at top-tier conferences such as DATE and DAC, and recognition as a Best Lecturer.
He is actively involved in mentoring and academic leadership, teaching foundational and advanced courses such as Digital Logic, Computer Organization and Architecture, Embedded Systems, and Capstone Design. He leads the eBRAIN Lab, which focuses on energy-efficient and brain-inspired computing technologies. His research has been widely published, with over 250 papers in premier journals and conferences, six authored books, and multiple book chapters, along with a U.S. patent.
