Muhammad Nadeem is an Associate Professor of Accounting and Co-lead of the Business Sustainability Initiative (BSI) research hub at the University of Queensland Business School, Faculty of Business, Economics and Law. Previously, he held academic positions at the University of Otago and Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand, establishing a distinguished career in accounting and sustainability research.
Dr. Nadeem's research spans interdisciplinary areas including corporate governance, corporate social and environmental responsibility, and financial and non-financial disclosures, with a particular focus on climate change reporting. His work explores how board composition, especially gender diversity, influences corporate sustainability practices, environmental innovation, and disclosure quality. He investigates the relationship between sustainability performance and financial outcomes, examining how markets respond to corporate environmental actions and how sustainability reporting affects firm value and access to capital.
His research portfolio demonstrates a consistent trajectory toward understanding governance mechanisms that influence sustainability practices. Recent work shows increasing focus on climate change disclosure, waste management practices, and the role of specialized sustainability committees in corporate governance. His methodological approach combines quantitative analysis of large datasets with theoretical frameworks from accounting, finance, and organizational theory.

Dr. Nadeem has successfully supervised six PhD students to completion, with his graduates now holding faculty positions at leading international universities. He currently supervises multiple PhD candidates working on topics related to sustainability accounting, corporate governance, and environmental performance. His teaching portfolio includes Sustainability Accounting and Reporting, Cost and Management Accounting, and Advanced Management Accounting at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. As an academic leader, he has served as Co-lead of the BSI research hub, Deputy Associate Dean of Postgraduate Programs, and Director of the Master of Professional Accounting degree.
Dr. Nadeem is actively involved with the Business Sustainability Initiative research hub, which focuses on interdisciplinary research addressing sustainability challenges in business. He collaborates with standard-setting bodies including the External Reporting Board (XRB) in New Zealand and the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB), contributing through research forums and panel facilitation.
