Dr. Morton Lowengrub is the Provost Emeritus and University Professor of Mathematics at Yeshiva University. He joined YU in 1999 as Vice President of Academic Affairs and became Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2007. He holds a BA from New York University, an MS from the California Institute of Technology, and a PhD from Duke University.
His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations, integral equations, and crack problems in elasticity theory. He has contributed to systems of integral equations, double/triple integral equations, and mixed boundary value problems.
Dr. Lowengrub has received prestigious honors including fellowships from the National Science Foundation, Leverhulme Foundation, and Science Research Council of Great Britain. He was also recognized for teaching excellence and had an asteroid named after him by the International Astronomical Union for his role in the WIYN telescope project.
He has taught advanced courses such as Calculus I/II, Complex Variables, Analysis, and topics in mathematical foundations.
