Monique Reed

Monique Reed is a Professor and The Independence Foundation Professor of Nursing Education at Rush University College of Nursing, Department of Community, Systems and Mental Health Nursing. She is an active researcher and educator focusing on health disparities, particularly in Black communities.

Dr. Reed's research interests include:

• Public Health Nursing and Health Promotion
• Obesity Prevention, especially among African American adolescent girls and their families
• Health Disparities and Structural Racism in Healthcare
• Community-Based Participatory Research approaches
• Nursing Education and Faculty Development

Her scholarly work demonstrates a consistent focus on addressing health disparities through culturally relevant interventions. Recent publications show an increasing emphasis on structural racism and its impact on health outcomes, particularly for Black patients. She has developed several interventions targeting obesity prevention among Black adolescent daughters and their mothers, with a strong emphasis on community engagement and partnership.

Dr. Reed actively mentors nursing students and has developed academic programs to promote public health nursing. Her work often involves community partnerships to address health disparities through collaborative research and intervention development, with a growing focus on dismantling structural racism in healthcare systems and nursing education.
