Monika Schulz is Professor of Medieval Language and Literature at the University of Regensburg, holding the Chair of Older German Literature within the Faculty of Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies and its Institute of German Studies.
Research interests span historical cultural studies, historical anthropology of magic (European Middle Ages, Assyrian and Egyptian comparanda), legal history and its interplay with medieval literature, structuralist & cultural-semiotic theory (Lotman, van Gennep, Foucault, Titzmann, Lévi-Strauss), intercultural medieval studies including Nordic and Celtic material, the relationship of text and image in medieval and early-modern manuscripts, and gender research.
