Monica R. Cowart, PhD serves as the Executive Vice President and Provost at Catawba College, a position she assumed in January 2024 following a national search. In this senior academic leadership role, she oversees all academic affairs and provides strategic direction for the institution's educational mission.
Dr. Cowart's professional expertise spans Psychology, Higher Education Leadership, and Academic Administration. Her work emphasizes student-centered approaches, strategic program development, and improving student retention outcomes. She has demonstrated success in creating innovative academic pathways including graduate programs, undergraduate majors, and certificate options that address contemporary educational needs.
Among her significant recognitions are the Bridging Difference in Higher Education Learning Fellowship at UC Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center and her prestigious American Council on Education (ACE) Fellowship.
Dr. Cowart has a proven track record of academic leadership, having implemented strategic initiatives that resulted in a 9% increase in first-year retention at Lebanon Valley College and developed numerous academic programs across multiple institutions. She is also actively engaged in community service through leadership positions with non-profit and social justice organizations.
