About
Dr. Mo Hoque is a Senior Lecturer in Hydrogeology at the University of Portsmouth, affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Health, School of the Environment and Life Sciences, and Centre for Blue Governance. He holds a PhD from University College London (2010) and has held postdoctoral and teaching positions at Imperial College London, UCL, and institutions in Bangladesh.
- Education: PhD (UCL, 2010); PGDip (BUET, 2004); MSc/BSc (University of Dhaka, 2001/1999)
His research focuses on hydrogeology and environmental geoscience, particularly contaminant transport, arsenic pollution, and climate change impacts on delta hydrology. He investigates geoenvironmental risks, land degradation, and sustainable water solutions for developing countries.
Recent publications highlight groundwater contamination models (2025), spring water sustainability (2024), storm surge salinization (2024), and AI literacy (2023). His work spans contaminant hydrogeology, climate adaptation, and medical hydrogeology, with over 40 peer-reviewed papers and 3,000 citations.
Dr. Hoque supervises three fully-sponsored PhD students and contributes to NERC and NIHR grants. He serves on the editorial boards of three peer-reviewed journals and leads the Institute of the Earth and Environment research group.
