Mitchel Erickson is a faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing, where he earned both his Master of Science (MS, 1997) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP, 2022) degrees. He serves as a Geriatric Age-Friendly Emergency Department (AFED) Consultant and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in the UCSF Division of Geriatrics. Erickson previously held the role of Chief of Advanced Practice at UCSF Health, where he elevated the role of over 600 advanced practice providers.
He established the first UC Advanced Practice Strategy Committee and chaired the California Board of Registered Nursing’s Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Advisory Committee. His work in emergency geriatric care led to the UCSF Helen Diller Medical Center at Parnassus Heights receiving the Gold Level 1 accreditation from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in 2022.
He teaches nursing students, mentors emergency medicine nurse practitioner students in Haiti, and consults for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Erickson’s research focuses on improving care delivery for older adults, healthcare policy advocacy, and interprofessional collaboration models in emergency settings.
