Mirko Pasquini is an Assistant Professor in Medical Anthropology at the Department of Global Studies, University of Gothenburg, and an affiliated researcher at Uppsala University's Centre for Medical Humanities. His work bridges hospital ethnography, primary care systems, and the sociocultural dimensions of healthcare governance. Key focuses include health inequalities, trust/mistrust dynamics in care, and post-pandemic healthcare challenges.
His current project, funded by the Swedish Research Council, explores mistrust in Italian healthcare post-COVID-19. Earlier research on emergency room urgency negotiations earned the 2021 Westinska Prize. A book based on this work is under contract with Rutgers University Press.
- Training initiatives: Since 2018, he has led 'Structural Competency' programs for healthcare professionals in Sweden and Italy.
- Leadership roles: Board member of the Swedish Anthropology Association (SANT), coordinator of the 'Hospital Ethnography peer-meetings' within the Medical Anthropology Europe Young Scholars Network (MAYS).
Award highlights include the Westinska Prize (2021) and active participation in the Society for Medical Anthropology's 'Teaching to Health Professionals' initiative.
