Mirijam Gaertner

Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Mirijam Gaertner is a full-time Professor of Ecology (with a focus on Urban Ecology) at the University of Applied Sciences for Economics and the Environment (HFWU) Nürtingen-Geislingen since 2017. She serves as Dean of Studies for the Master’s program in Environmental Protection. Her research expertise spans invasion biology, wetland management, and conservation, informed by her prior roles as Coordinator for Applied Research at the Department of Environmental Resource Management in Cape Town (2013–2017) and postdoctoral work at the DST-NRF Centre of Excellence for Invasion Biology in South Africa (2007–2012). She earned her doctorate in 2006 from Albert-Ludwig University of Freiburg with a dissertation on wetland flora dynamics under elk disturbance at Dauban/Upper Lusatia.
