Miles O’Neil is a Lecturer in Art and Performance at Deakin University's School of Creative Arts. He holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, where his research focused on sound in contemporary performance, supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award.
His research examines sound's role in culture, with emphasis on:
- Immersive audio technologies (3D, binaural, spatialized sound)
- Headphone-based sound design for live experiences
- Theatre and music performance integration
He is currently collaborating on 'Giant Adventure'—a project using wireless looping technology to innovate audience-performer interaction. Outside academia, Miles co-founded the award-winning group Suitcase Royale, performing internationally, and works as a musician, actor, and sound designer.
