Mike Emerson

Professor Mike Emerson is a Professor of Cardiovascular Pharmacology at Imperial College London's National Heart & Lung Institute (Faculty of Medicine), leading the Platelet Biology Group and directing the Academic Tutoring programme for medical students. His research focuses on platelet science interfaces, including HIV-cardiovascular risk mechanisms, nanomaterial-based therapies, and pollution's cardiovascular impacts. He holds affiliations with the Immuno-Pathology Network, Air Quality Excellence Network, and Vascular Science Network.

Education: BSc in Animal Physiology & Nutrition (University of Leeds), PhD in Pharmacology (King’s College London, 1998). Postdoctoral training at Sydney, Edinburgh, and Manchester Universities. Recognized for student mentoring through prestigious awards in pastoral care and educational excellence.

Research spans clinical pharmacology, medical physiology, and public health, with cross-disciplinary interests in biochemistry and nanotechnology. His Platelet Biology Group collaborates on antiretroviral drug interactions, haemostatic device development, and pollution health impacts.

Leadership roles include heading student tutoring initiatives promoting learning skills and wellbeing, alongside his laboratory's translational research programs.
