About
Dr. Alastair Barr is Senior Lecturer in Pharmacology and Physiology at University of Westminster, leading the MSc Pharmaceutical Science program. His research focuses on protein tyrosine phosphatases in cardiovascular disease and cancer, employing structural biology, cell assays, and flow cytometry. With a DPhil from Oxford, he previously worked at University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, and Structural Genomics Consortium Oxford.
His investigations examine PTP regulation of vascular smooth muscle cells and platelet function in thrombosis, including pharmacological modulation strategies. Recent studies characterize molecular interactions in megakaryocyte regulation and receptor communication mechanisms.
Teaching includes Systems Pharmacology, Drug Discovery, and Medical Physiology across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with PhD supervision in vascular biology and cell signaling pathways.
