Professor Mike Cherniakov, PhD, DSc, is a Chair in Aerospace and Electronic Systems at the School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering, University of Birmingham. He founded and leads the Microwave Integrated Systems Laboratory (MISL), the largest radar research group in UK universities.

His research focuses on advanced radar systems, microwave sensors, and networks, with expertise in bistatic radar remote sensing, low THz radar, and forward scatter radar. He has secured over £3 million in research grants and contracts.
Notable contributions include the 2012 IEEE Radar Conference chairmanship, editorship of the Radar Volume in the Encyclopedia of Aerospace Engineering, and leadership in NATO task groups SET-195 and SET-196. He has authored 4 books, 90 journal papers, and 170 conference papers.

With nearly 40 years of teaching experience, he supervises and co-supervises 10 PhD students and teaches courses on Statistical Signal Processing and RF Sensors Networks. He manages the Wireless Communication and Remote Sensing Group and serves on the School Management Committee.
