Mike Alger

Mike Alger is an Lecturer at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he now shares his nearly four-decade expertise in meteorology after retiring from Channel 2 KTVN in 2024. At KTVN, he served as Chief Meteorologist for 34 years, providing critical coverage of historic weather events like the New Year’s Flood of '97 and the Presidents' Day Blizzard of 1990.

• Education: B.A. in Geology and Chemistry from Whitman College (Walla Walla, Washington); Rhodes Scholar quarter finalist.
• Professional Recognition: Emmy Award-winner; Associated Press Best Weathercast Award (1995); Radio and Television News Directors Association Best Weathercast Awards (1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, 2001).

His research interests span Meteorology and Environmental Science, focusing on weather event analysis, drought monitoring, and wildfire impact assessment. Alger also holds a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certification from the American Meteorological Society and has served in advisory roles for the Nevada Department of Transportation’s road sensor program and the Drought Task Force under former Governor Sandoval.
