Dr. Miguel A. Altieri is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy, & Management at UC Berkeley. He applies agroecological principles to develop sustainable farming systems that enhance biodiversity, natural pest control, and resilience in agricultural ecosystems. His research emphasizes smallholder farming systems in Latin America.
Education:
- PhD in Entomology, University of Florida
Current projects investigate landscape ecology approaches to pest management, including biological corridors in monoculture systems and cover crop management in vineyards. His international work promotes agroecological research and training partnerships across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
