Dr. Michelle Montagno is an Associate Professor at the University of San Francisco's Department of Integrated Healthcare within the School of Nursing and Health Professions. She holds leadership roles including Co-Chair of the SONHP Program Evaluation Committee, Chair of the PsyD Admissions Committee, and Chair of the PsyD Curriculum & Clinical Training Committee. Her academic journey includes a PsyD (2010) and MA (2007) in Clinical Psychology from The Wright Institute, and a BA in Political Science and Women’s Studies from The Ohio State University (1999).
Her research focuses on culturally responsive therapy, white racial identity development, LGBTQ+ activism, and combating racism and white supremacy. She emphasizes intersectional approaches to identity development, particularly for LGBTQ+ communities. Her recent publications explore LGBTQ+ activism motivations, queer identity categories, and multiracial LGBTQ+ experiences.

Her clinical interests include brief psychotherapy, racial/sexual identity development, and culturally accountable graduate training. Beyond academia, she is an advanced open-water scuba diver.
