Michelle Monroe

Michele Monroe is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Voice at the School of Music, University of Northern Iowa since 2016. She holds a Master of Music in Voice Performance (UNI) and Bachelor of Music Education (Northern State University). Her expertise spans vocal performance, opera roles, and contemporary music premieres.

Her research focuses on American vocal music, including world premieres like Jeremy Beck's Four Songs (2022). She has received acclaim for performances in Eve-Song and Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson, winning First Place at the UNI Graduate Symposium twice consecutively. Monroe is also a sought-after recitalist and soloist, appearing with orchestras like the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra and Grinnell Oratorio Society.

Performance highlights include roles as Maddalena (Rigoletto), Ruth (Pirates of Penzance), and Blanche (Dialogues des Carmélites). She has participated in prestigious programs like Central City Opera’s Young Artist Program and the Johanna Meier Opera Theater Institute. Monroe resides in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and actively engages in community music education through her teaching and performances.
