Michelle Marvin is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Associate Director of the University Writing Center at the University of Notre Dame. She also serves as faculty in the Inspired Leadership Initiative (ILI), where she co-teaches Great Books courses and contributes to liberal arts education. Her interdisciplinary research bridges writing studies, theology, and science, focusing on environmental rhetoric, sustainability communication, and the ethical implications of AI in writing practices. Dr. Marvin holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame, alongside degrees in Theology, Education, and Liberal Arts.
Her research explores how messaging shapes responses to ecological challenges and examines the intersection of technology, memory, and forgiveness through analyses of media like Westworld. She actively addresses AI’s impact on writing centers and advocates for equitable writing practices in diverse educational contexts. Dr. Marvin’s work also includes co-leading the Warrior-Scholar Project, supporting military veterans’ transition to college life through humanities writing courses.
Notable awards include a National Endowment for the Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship and Templeton Religion Trust Doctoral Fellowship. Her scholarly contributions span peer-reviewed articles on writing center practices and interdisciplinary theological studies, alongside conference presentations on topics ranging from neuroethics to global creation care.
