Michele Rostan

Michele Rostan is an Associate Professor of Economic Sociology at the University of Pavia, Italy, and Director of the CIRSIS Centre for Higher Education Systems Research. He also serves as Rector’s Delegate for Student Affairs. His academic career includes roles as Researcher/Assistant Professor (1999-2007) and Research Fellow (1999) at the University of Pavia. He holds a PhD in Sociology (1992, joint program with Universities of Milan, Turin, and Pavia) and a Laurea cum laude in Economics (1987).

His research focuses on the interplay between economy, society, and higher education systems. Key areas include graduate labor markets, university-industry links, academic profession dynamics, and regional development. Recent work explores international academic mobility and policy reforms affecting higher education governance.

• Research Contributions: Participated in EU and national projects on academic profession restructuring, university-industry partnerships, and higher education policy.
• Editorial Roles: Editor of the CIRSIS book series Studies on Higher Education, and member of editorial boards for Higher Education and Studies in Higher Education.
