Michele Colucci is a Senior Researcher at the National Research Council (CNR)’s Institute for Mediterranean Studies (ISMed), where he serves as Scientific Director for research on the History of Migration. He holds a national qualification for the role of Associate Professor in Contemporary History (2013 and 2020) and teaches migration history at Roma Tre University, alongside previous roles at the University of Tuscia and the University of Naples L’Orientale.
His research focuses on contemporary history, with a specialization in migration phenomena, including internal and international migration patterns, social policies, and historical governance. He leads the Cnr-Ismed/Rome Libraries Third Party Research Unit and is an editorial board member of Meridiana and Archivio storico dell’emigrazione italiana.
Dr. Colucci has authored over 100 publications, including monographs like History of Foreign Immigration in Italy (2018), and has received the National Scientific Dissemination Award (Human Sciences, 2019). His work bridges historical analysis with contemporary policy, exploring migration’s societal impacts, labor dynamics, and cultural memory. He regularly advises institutions on migration-related issues.
Key areas of expertise include post-war migration policies, Mediterranean mobility, and the intersection of migration with urban and agricultural labor history. His research highlights unresolved challenges in Italian migration governance and contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues on global migration trends.
