Michaela Lochner

Dr. Michaela Lochner is a Researcher at the Austrian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Oriental and European Archaeology (OREA). She previously served as Deputy Director of OREA (May 2017–February 2018) and leads the long-term 'Urnfield Culture Networks' research project since 2015. She is also a co-editor of the journal Archaeologia Austriaca.

Education: Studied prehistoric archaeology and physical anthropology at the University of Vienna.

Research Focus: Specializes in the Late Bronze Age/Urnfield Cultures of Central Europe, emphasizing burial rituals, ceramic typology, and societal structures. Her work explores the cultural heritage of the Middle Danubian Urnfield Culture, integrating material culture analysis with social archaeology.

Affiliations: Active within the Austrian Academy of Sciences' Prehistoric Commission (now part of OREA) since 1997. Associated with the Research Group 'Urnfield Culture Networks'.
