Michael Yonchak

Dr. Michael Yonchak is an Associate Professor of Music at Otterbein University in Westerville, Ohio, and an active freelance percussionist in the Columbus area.

His research focuses on performance practices and interpretation of Frank Zappa’s music, popular music culture, and percussion performance. He has presented clinics on Zappa’s works and broader themes in American popular music. His publications include analyses of protest music during the Vietnam War, possession/exorcism themes in music, and backmasking techniques.

Dr. Yonchak’s affiliations include Vic Firth, Inc. and Finnegan Hill Irish Percussion endorsements, as well as memberships in professional organizations such as the Ohio Music Education Association, College Band Directors National Association, National Band Association, and Percussive Arts Society.
