Michael Tye

Michael Tye is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin, College of Liberal Arts, holding a PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Prior appointments include Haverford College, the University of St Andrews, Temple University, and a decade as Visiting Professor of Philosophy at King's College London.

His research focuses on Consciousness, Philosophy of Mind, Perception, Color, Animal Minds, Mental Imagery, Vagueness, and Concepts. As a leading philosopher of mind, he has authored seminal works including Ten Problems of Consciousness, Consciousness Revisited, and Vagueness and the Evolution of Consciousness.

Professor Tye teaches courses such as Mind and Body (PHL 303M), Nature of Visual Consciousness (PHL 365), and Supervised Teaching in Philosophy (PHL 398T) with active listings through Fall 2025.
