Dr. Michael Owiso serves as Dean of the School of Development and Strategic Studies at Maseno University, Kenya. He concurrently holds a visiting role as Senior Research Fellow at the African Leadership Centre (part of King’s Global Institutes, School of Global Affairs, King’s College London). His academic background includes a BA in Political Science from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, an MA in International Relations from USIU-Africa, and a PhD in Political Science from Aalborg University, Denmark.
His research focuses on interdisciplinary studies of migration, refugees, and displaced persons in Africa, alongside conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and transformative leadership. He emphasizes state-society dynamics and security within African contexts. Michael has over 17 years of experience in humanitarian work addressing conflict and development in Eastern and the Horn of Africa, advocating participatory approaches to education and development.
As a consultant and reviewer in journals, he contributes to policy discussions on leadership, security, and development. His work bridges theory and practice, particularly in fostering transformative leadership models in Africa.
