Prof. Dr. Michael Moseler is a Full Professor of Modeling of Functional Nanosystems at the University of Freiburg’s Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Institute for Physics. He also leads the Group for Multiscale Modeling and Tribosimulation at Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials. His research focuses on computational materials science, atomistic simulations, quantum chemistry, and multiscale modeling, with applications in nanocatalysis and tribological systems. He supervises doctoral researchers including Zohreh Izadi, Esther Johnsen, and Mejdeddine Mokthar. Key projects include the livMatS initiative’s TriboGen-Chem and SolStore programs.
Teaching contributions include courses on computational materials engineering, density functional theory, and multiscale simulation. His work bridges atomistic mechanisms with macroscopic material behavior, emphasizing energy materials, wear processes, and mechanochemistry. Research highlights include studies on carbon materials’ electronic structure, mechanochemical reactions, and tribological interfaces.
