Michael Mitchell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at UMass Chan Medical School and T.H. Chan School of Medicine. He serves as Director of Microbiology Services in the Department of Hospital Laboratories. His expertise spans clinical microbiology, laboratory management, and medical education.
Education: BS in Chemistry from Boston College, followed by an MD from Yale University School of Medicine (1978). He completed residencies and fellowships in Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, Microbiology Service (NIH), and Human Genetics (Harvard Medical School).
Research and Clinical Interests: Overseeing microbiology laboratory operations, including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology. He actively participates in teaching medical students, pathology residents, and infectious diseases fellows. He holds certifications from the American Board of Pathology (Medical Microbiology, 1986) and American Board of Medical Genetics (Clinical Cytogenetics, 1993).
